Infrared Project

We live in an increasingly interconnected world, from our supply chains to our interpersonal relationships. Most of these global interactions leave digital traces, which provide us with a wealth of data that can be studied in order to gain insight into the modern world and address some of our most intractable challenges. One such challenge is that of human trafficking. At Project Infrared, we consider human trafficking as a network operation that could be seen and understood with the right AI tool, and we work on developing data-driven techniques that can flag suspicious network activity that exhibit signs of human trafficking. Currently, Project Infrared includes Masters and PhDs students as well as Professors in the fields of computer science and criminology. Furthermore, a dedicated Project Manager at Mila is responsible for ensuring that the tool is built robustly and deployed ethically among those with specialized functions related to the investigation and prevention of human trafficking. This team of people has succeeded in generating the building blocks of an AI solution but are looking for a software engineer to work closely with the research team, piece together different algorithms, and bring this work to the next level.
